Bonner Leaders Crew

The Bonner Leaders Program is a national civic engagement program that provides leadership development and opportunities to engage in the community. At Warren Wilson, the program is embedded into the work of the Bonner Leaders Crew. Our crew members develop and lead service opportunities for the campus, including short-term and longer-term direct service and educational programming. Our Bonners are passionate about civic engagement, working for social and environmental justice, and connecting across campus, across town, and across the country. Our program is deeply committed to the Bonner motto – “Access to Education, Opportunity to Serve.”

Bonner is founded on six common commitments:
Diversity – We respect and embrace the many dimensions of diversity in our private and public lives.
Social Justice – We advocate for fairness, impartiality, and equality while addressing systemic social and environmental issues.
International Perspective – We develop international understanding that enables us to participate successfully in a global society.
Spiritual Exploration – We explore personal beliefs while respecting the spiritual practices of others.
Civic Engagement – We participate intentionally as citizens in the democratic process, actively engaging in public policy and direct service.
Community Building – We establish and sustain a vibrant community of place, personal relationships, and common interests.

Bonners are provided with a range of resources to support their education, including funding for summer internships and conference opportunities.

All students are invited to apply to our crew, but we only select twelve new crew members each summer (for fall enrollment). Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to community involvement, and most WWC Bonners have federal work study as part of their financial aid package. We especially encourage first-generation college students to apply.

Note: WWC Bonners are asked to commit to at least two years in our program, in order to benefit the relationships we build with our community partners. Also, we are not a Bonner Scholars program and hence do not provide scholarships at this time.
