The Warren Wilson College Board of Trustees has approved plans to build a new academic building at the site where Carson Hall once stood.

The 15,000 square-foot facility will cost $6 million to construct. It features 19 faculty offices and six flexible learning and meeting spaces—ranging from 15-person seminar rooms to a 40-person flex classroom— as well as a large multi-use common atrium. All walls between meeting spaces will be reconfigurable, allowing the building to accommodate groups as large as 60 (by combining classrooms) to 150 (by opening up the atrium).

Warren Wilson College’s pool will open this fall. Renovations to the exterior structure are slated to begin in the coming days. The College hopes to open the doors in time for the 2017-18 swim team season.

The roughly $800,000 project is funded through a significant contribution from an anonymous donor, continued gifts from friends of the College, monies designated for capital improvements and the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. The pool will have a new name, which the College will announce prior to the opening.

Before the pool closed in late 2014, it was used by a variety of public groups, organizations and community members. The need remains, and the College is set to re-establish partnerships with the various constituencies.

Oh, the Places Your Gift Will Go!
Dr. Seuss web_cover

The WWC Fund supports every student, faculty member, and program on campus at Warren Wilson College. Through the WWC Fund, the College is given the flexibility to remain the only national liberal arts college that fully integrates on-campus work with off-campus community engagement, while maintaining a commitment to preparing our students to live lives as leaders in social justice, diversity, and environmental sustainability.

Your gift to the WWC Fund will go to the area that is most needed. You can also support the WWC Fund for a specific designation like scholarships, the farm, academics, athletics or community engagement. In each case, your gift will be used as intended to make a difference.

Giving to the WWC Fund ensures that Warren Wilson College remains the place that we know and love. Thank you for your support.
