CURRENTLY ENROLLED MFA STUDENTS
Step 1: Complete the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to upload all tax information from the IRS into the FAFSA or manually enter information from your 2015 federal income tax return. Your financial aid awards cannot be finalized until you complete your FAFSA with accurate federal tax information either by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool or entering the information manually.
The FAFSA should be submitted to the federal processor no later than March 1 (for the July semester) or September 1 (for the January semester), from a completed 2015 Federal Tax Return. FAFSA results processed by the WWC Financial Aid Office after April 15 or October 15 will not be considered for a MFA need-based grant. You will only fill out one FAFSA per academic year. For example for the academic year of 2017-2018 you will fill out a FAFSA once by the March 1st deadline for the fall and spring term.
In regards to federal aid eligibility from your FAFSA, there are two terms per academic year for the MFA Program for Writers.
Fall term or semester being the period of July 1 – December 31; named July semester to the MFA Program
Application Deadline: March 1, 2017
Spring term being the period of January 1 – June 30; named January semester to the MFA Program
Application Deadline: September 1, 2017
Step 2: Students who are selected for a process for verification will be asked to follow up with the School Servicing Center or the Warren Wilson Financial Aid Office.
The Financial Aid Office at Warren Wilson College is partnering with College Foundation of North Carolina and their School Servicing Center to streamline and expedite the verification process for students and parents. The federal processor will determine whether your FAFSA is selected for a process called verification. If you are selected for the verification process it simply means certain items on your FAFSA must be verified before we can finalize any of your awards.
If you are selected for verification and need to be processed by the School Servicing Center (SSC), you will see on the Pending Requirements tab of Net Partner, “Complete Verification with SSWCP”. The Financial Aid Office will notify the SSC and they will collect and process all verification documents. Watch for emails from verification@SSCwp.org or email@example.com with instructions on what you need to do to complete the process. Please follow the instructions carefully. You will complete most or all of your verification by using the online verification interview on the “Student Tab” at SSCwp.org. You may also upload required documents online. The School Servicing Center will notify the Warren Wilson Financial Aid Office once you have completed the verification process.
When viewing the Pending Requirements tab on CampusWEB, if “Verification Worksheet 4” or” Verification Worksheet 5” is listed, you have been selected for one of these verification groups, please print the appropriate worksheet from our forms on our web page (warren-wilson.edu/finaid and select forms on the right side of the page. Under 2017-2018 forms click on the Verification Worksheet 4 or the Verification Worksheet 5 as listed in Net Partner). Follow the instructions on the paperwork and follow up with the Financial Aid Office.
Step 3: A final award of scholarships, grants, and student loans will be made once the FAFSA and any other requested documents have been finalized, received, and reviewed by the Financial Aid Office. This will be available for you to view on Net Partner. Please check your email regularly for updates and requests for information.
Step 4: Once an award is finalized, the student must make a decision to accept or decline any aid offered. Accept the federal loan on the Accept Awards tab of Net Partner. A Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling must be completed online at studentloans.gov.
If you are a new student loan borrower for the 2017-2018 (meaning you have never borrowed student loans at Warren Wilson College before) you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling online at studentloans.gov.
