How to Apply – New Students

Step 1: Apply for admission online using the Common Application. Your application for admission will also serve as your application for scholarships.

A note to International Students: Warren Wilson College Scholarships and Aid are based upon the application for admission and the declaration of finances.  International students never complete the FAFSA since they are not eligible for U.S. Government (Federal) aid. International students are required to submit a completed College Board International Student Financial Aid Application for 2017-2018.  Please contact your admission counselor to receive a copy of this form.

Step 2: After October 1, 2016, complete the 2017-2018  Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to upload all 2015 tax information from the IRS into the FAFSA.  Your financial aid awards cannot be finalized until you complete your FAFSA with accurate federal tax information either by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool or entering the information manually.

Step 3: Students who are selected for a process for verification will be asked to follow up with the School Servicing Center or the Warren Wilson Financial Aid Office.

The Financial Aid Office at Warren Wilson College is partnering with College Foundation of North Carolina and their School Servicing Center to streamline and expedite the verification process for students and parents. The federal processor will determine whether your FAFSA is selected for a process called verification. If you are selected for the verification process it simply means certain items on your FAFSA must be verified before we can finalize any of your awards.

If you are selected for verification and need to be processed by the School Servicing Center (SSC), you will see on the Pending Requirements tab of your Net Partner account, “Complete Verification with SSWCP”. The Financial Aid Office will notify the SSC and they will collect and process all verification documents. Watch for emails from verification@SSCwp.org or echosign@echosign.com with instructions on what you need to do to complete the process.  Please follow the instructions carefully. You will complete most or all of your verification by using the online verification interview on the “Student Tab” at SSCwp.org.  You may also upload required documents online. The School Servicing Center will notify the Warren Wilson Financial Aid Office once you have completed the verification process.

When viewing the pending requirements tab on Net Partner, if “Verification Worksheet 4” or” Verification Worksheet 5” is listed, you have been selected for one of these verification groups, please print the appropriate worksheet from our forms on our web page (warren-wilson.edu/finaid) and select forms on the right side of the page. Under 2017-2018 forms click on the Verification Worksheet 4 or the Verification Worksheet 5 as listed on NetPartner. Follow the instructions on the paperwork and follow up with the Financial Aid Office.

Step 4: If you are selected for verification or there is incomplete information on your FAFSA, an estimated award will be created for you, based on your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA.  This award will not be final until all requested documents are completed. Please be aware that your final award may be greater or less than your estimated award once all information is received.

Step 5: A final award of scholarships, grants, work and student loans will be made once the FAFSA and any other requested documents have been received and reviewed by the Financial Aid Office. Financial Aid awards for 2017-2018 will begin in February (for new students beginning in fall 2017) and late October (for new students beginning in spring 2018).

Step 6: Once an award is finalized, the student must make a decision to accept or decline each award including any loan offered.  This acceptance is completed on  the Accept Awards tab of NetPartner.  In addition, a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling must be completed online at studentloans.gov.

Step 7: New students may contact their Admission Counselor or the Financial Aid Office by calling (800) 934-3536. Email addresses are: admit@warren-wilson.edu or finaid@warren-wilson.edu.
